“The Whole is as Great as the Parts” Aristotle This is a motto for all great events. Each individual detail must have special focus to guarantee that the whole is a beautiful day. An invitation is the first impression a guest gets to an event. Each detail from the writing - whether in calligraphy or a digital print - to the stationery it is printed on is an opportunity for the host to set the tone of an event. Will this wedding be formal, or casual? An elegant affair or a carnival style party?
It is obvious that I love Calligraphy?
When I was growing up, there was this beautiful poem written by my dad hanging on the wall. He wrote it for my mom and had it written out in calligraphy and framed. I often found myself admiring the calligraphy - the fluidity of the penmanship and how this visual art brought the letters in the words of the poem to life.
My love for calligraphy has grown for many reasons. It makes something ordinary look extraordinary with one flick of the wrist. In our age of technology the romance of someone taking the time to write something out is beautiful. Finally, it brings life to the words in such an artful way.
These are only a few reasons why I decided to have my business logo custom made by a calligrapher. But selecting a calligrapher was not easy! Each calligrapher has their own style and I wanted to be sure I selected someone whose style would fit my aesthetic as an event planner and stylist. It wasn’t until I purchased my second Sugar Paper, Kate Champagne desk calendar refill, that I realized I loved THAT calligrapher. The lovely ladies at Sugar Paper pointed me in the direction of Lisa Holtzman. Lisa created my business logo in a way that I LOVE! It puts a smile on my face everyday, just like my dad’s beautiful poem in calligraphy did when I was growing up.
While our parents always taught us to not judge a book by its’ cover, Calligraphy is a treat for the eye that begs for your attention. I have compiled some lovely calligraphy treats for you to enjoy, take a look below and comment with your favorites!
